The client approached Sloop Automation with a requirement to automate the assemble of a medical filter tube. The goal was to reduce labor, increase throughput, and reduce rejects. There were three unique pieces that needed to be inserted into the 7mm ID tube, with multiple layers of one piece. They had existing equipment to do this but were not happy with it and wanted something better.
After discussing with the client several possible solutions and cost estimates, it was decided to use an indexing pallet conveyor and build custom automation on top of it. Sloop Automation worked with the client to design insertion stations for each of the three components that would meet their specifications. After the design was complete, all the components were ordered and assembled. Then conveyor and insertion stations were programmed using a Mitsubishi FX5 PLC and GOT HMI. After debugging and testing the machine it was disassembled and shipped to the client.
Integration in the client’s facility went smoothly and they were very impressed with the quality, speed, and the much-improved good to reject part ratio (from their previous machine).
